I'm not sure why I became so obsessed with doing this run, perhaps the same line of reasoning that Sir Edmond Hillary used; because it's there. At any rate my favorite running mate(not political running) Tom & I set out to get to the highest point along the north ridge of City Creek Canyon. The summit is 7200' & our lowly beginning elevation was 4600'. I'm sure we did more than the 2600' gain, there were quite a few rolling hills. This run was a beast.
Two miles in, looking down from the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
14.58 miles of hills like this. The funny thing was Tom didn't stop so I didn't stop running. Tom told me after that he didn't stop because I didn't.
Rehydrating at the summit. A well earned break as well.
Salt Lake City as seen from 7200'.
It was quite warm hence being sans shirt. In the final approach to the summit not only were my shades getting foggy from the sweat but my eyes felt like they were getting foggy too.
Geological marker.
City Creek Canyon down below.
Spring is a great time to run along the Wasatch.
I told Tom before we started to use sun screen, he didn't and I'm sure he regrets it now.
These descents were perhaps more physically taxing then going up. Madness.
Anyone done this before? Any other great trails I should be hitting up?
The peak directly to the west of your mile 4 marker is Meridian Peak, but I don't know the names of the others on that ridge. I'll see what I can find out for you.
ReplyDeleteLooks nice up there right now.
Yes, I did it in about 1950. Living in PA now and feeling ancient. Thanks for the memories
